Screen shot 2013-02-25 at 10.30.01 PMThe bucolic Indiana landscape serves as our inspiration, our site, and our home for the week. You’ll live on the farm, collaborate to design and make meaningful space that you create with your own hands. This is a unique, immersive experience designed for discussion, collaborative design and investigation of ceremonial place-making in the landscape.

Purpose
STUDIO 013 is designed to explore the role that nature and the landscape play in defining and supporting momentous life experiences. Our goal for the week is to design and build a meaningful ceremonial space within the unique Tryon Farm landscape to serve future outdoor celebrations.

STUDIO 013 begins with the Sunday Symposium. Join us for lectures, conversations and critiques by distinguished thought leaders.

Site analysis and design charrettes in the first portion of the week will lead to a group design proposal to be constructed by the team in the second half of the week. Throughout the program participants receive hands-on guidance from craftspeople who will shepherd our collective ideas into physical form.

Lodging
STUDIO 013 is a unique immersive creative building experience where participants live on-site in one of Tryon Farm’s unique contemporary eco-friendly cottages.  Participants spend seven nights at the 170-acre property located in Michigan City, Indiana – only 1.5 miles from Lake Michigan beaches and minutes from dunes and nearby resort communities.

Participants will gather daily in the beautiful century-old dairy barn for design, dialogue and meals.  Trips to the nearby beach, grocery store and other nearby haunts will be arranged throughout the week.

Participants
Open to students, architects, landscape architects, artists, carpenters, celebrants, and others from related fields. Limited to ten participants.
